Arotel is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Arotel is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
UNSAFE
Arotel may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
SAFE IF PRESCRIBED
Arotel is safe to use in patients with kidney disease. No dose adjustment of Arotel is recommended.
CAUTION
Arotel should be used with caution in patients with severe liver disease. Dose adjustment of Arotel may be needed. Please consult your doctor.
Limited information is available on the use of Arotel in these patients. No dose adjustment is recommended in patients with mild to moderate liver disease.

Introduction
Arotel is a prescription medicine used for asthma prevention and for the treatment of allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. It reduces inflammation in the airways and make breathing easier. Arotel can be taken with or without food, but take it at the same time to get the most benefit. How to use Arotel
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Arotel may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How Arotel works
Arotel works by blocking the action of leukotriene, a chemical messenger. This reduces inflammation in the airways to prevent asthma and relieve symptoms of allergies.
What if you forget to take Arotel?
If you miss a dose of Arotel, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Quick Tips
- You have been prescribed Arotel for asthma prevention and for the treatment of allergy symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose.
- It is a relatively safe medicine with very few side effects.
- Take Arotel 2 hours before exercising if you have exercise-induced asthma.
- It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Use your rescue inhaler to control sudden difficulty in breathing.
- Do not discontinue use without consulting your doctor, even if you feel better.

Mode of Action
Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the effects of cysteinyl leukotrienes in the airways.
Precaution
Not for the relief of acute bronchospasm. Not to be used as monotherapy for the prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm. Patients in whom asthma is precipitated by aspirin or other NSAIDs should continue to avoid aspirin and NSAIDs. Do not abruptly substitute for oral or inhaled corticosteroids. Be alert for any signs of Churg-Strauss syndrome. Pregnancy and lactation. Children <6 mth.
